The DELE (Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera) is the official Spanish diploma awarded by the Instituto Cervantes on behalf of Spain's Ministry of Education. It is the most internationally recognised Spanish certificate and has lifetime validity.
The official fee varies by level, session and authorised centre. Check the current amount through the official registration source linked above. Registration and exam fees are separate; after the diagnostic, we quote your online 1:1 preparation plan.
The Instituto Cervantes opens three main exam sessions per year: May, July and November. Registration closes approximately two months before each session. It's best to register well in advance to secure a spot and complete your preparation.
DELE results take approximately 3 months from the exam date. You can check them on the Instituto Cervantes website with your registration number. If you need faster results, the SIELE delivers results in 3 weeks.
For Spanish citizenship you need to pass at least the DELE A2, along with the CCSE exam (Constitutional and Sociocultural Knowledge of Spain). Many candidates opt to prepare for B1 for added confidence and professional value.
No, the DELE does not expire. Unlike other certificates such as the SIELE (which is valid for 5 years), the DELE diploma has lifetime validity once passed. This makes it ideal for citizenship applications and long-term qualifications.
It depends on your current level and the level you want to sit. From a solid A2, most students need between 8 and 12 weeks of intensive preparation to pass the B1. From a B1, 6 to 10 weeks are usually enough for the B2.
